Stimulus package for bands

May 27th, 2011

Blast House Studios is launching a program in the vein of Kickstarter. If you’re looking to record an album (20+hrs of time) from start to finish, we will host a private concert for you and 30 of your fans. They pay an average of $30 to watch you play a show at the Blast House which will include food & beverages to raise the funds for your recording. Here’s the math: 30 people @ $30 and there’s your recording budget. call for more info 608-438-9094

We’ll even help you with the marketing of the event to make sure this is a successful event. Day after day bands & musicians are playing benefit shows for a good cause, now it’s time to call in the cards and have the favor returned.

Oh yeah, the Madison Music Foundry has a new websites, same domain name but a complete overhaul on the site, check out all the action at www.madisonmusicfoundry.com

Last few weeks have seen some serious action…

December 1st, 2010

Wow, lots of great music being recorded over the last few weeks and lots more on the way to bring 2010 to a very productive close. Screeching Weasel tracked drums for four straight days and will be starting 8 days of vocal tracking this Friday. We did our first Madison Music Foundry recital in the live room, recorded 5 of the Foundry’s Rock Workshop bands to give kids all the great experiences of being in a band. Right now Miles Nielsen is throwing down 60 hours of tracking in four days. Last weekend we tracked two new songs for Swan King (ex-Plans Mistaken for Stars, Asschapel) from Chicago along with a video shot by Ryan Heraly. Madison up and coming country rockers Butcher Class Hogs finished a EP with Landon Arkens and next up for Landon is a new album for Venice Gas House Trolly, Jason Herowitz is recording his new jazz album. Dustin Sisson has been busy helping engineer the Screeching Weasel, Swan King & Miles Nielsen sessions and will start working with Whim. Po & Emili this month for their new album. I’m sure there will be a couple more projects added to this year before it’s over.

New Promo Videos – Live Tracking, can your friends basement studio pull this off?

November 12th, 2010

Here are 3 of 4 videos that Ryan Herely of Manic Eye Media created to help Blast House Studio promote how the studio functions.

In the Blueheel’s video, note that this is a live recording, the audio you hear is from a single live take where everyone is playing at the same time but all the instruments are isolated to keep tracks seperate yet everyone can still see each other for a live performance feel. When you shop for a studio don’t use only the price as a deciding factor as a recording of this quality could take 4 times as long if the studio can’t accommodate live tracking with the isolation quality that Blast House Studios has. When you’re paying by the hour this makes a huge difference for tracking costs. Also, note the fact that the Blueheels are awesome!! The bass player (Landon Arkens) is also the head engineer of Blast House Studios

This video for Swan King from Chicago (ex members from Plans Mistaken for Stars and Asschapel) demos the ability for the Blast House to record a sonic assult.

Not every session at Blast House calls for the isolation that the studio can provide. We set up Sweetgrass to record in a modified traditional fashion, with some tips taken from large orchestral tracking. After a couple of practice runs for the band to get their choreography down they let it rip -No headphones required! The three central mics captured the majority of the sound in the recording, and then the close mics filled in the holes and balanced out the ensemble.

An additional resource to Blast House Studios is to have your session documented with Ryan Heraly from Manic Eye Media. Check out his site to see the professional quality of his work. We can take the audio recorded at Blast House Studio and Ryan will edit it into the video for you to use on your websites and other promotional tools.
